A small studio, narrow on purpose

ESPYCRUX builds focused web applications and publishes the engineering notes behind them. We would rather run a few things properly than launch a dozen and let them rot.

ESPYCRUX is a product studio based in India. It is deliberately small: core work is done in-house, and freelance collaborators are brought in per project when something needs a specialist. There is no sales team, no support department and no outside funding.

The studio runs 3 finished applications and has 3 more in development. Everything is built with React and modern web standards, and each one is measured against Core Web Vitals on the kind of mid-range phone most visitors actually carry — not on the machine it was built on.

The writing exists for the same reason the tools do. When we work out how to fix an Interaction to Next Paint problem, or decide against a tool we had been excited about, we write it down with the specifics: the numbers, the trade-off, the thing that did not work. We only publish about work we have done, which is why the archive is narrow rather than broad.

How we choose what to build

Each application starts from a problem we hit ourselves and could not solve with something that already existed. Narrow scope, no account wall unless the application genuinely needs one, and no dark patterns.

Only subjects we have actually worked in: front-end performance, product engineering decisions, and where AI tooling earns its place in a small team versus where it quietly costs more time than it saves.

Gagan Sahu — Developer — Smart Tools Today

Gagan joined the studio after it had started, bringing Smart Tools Today with him. That is why the tools site sits on its own domain while the rest of the network runs on subdomains — it arrived already built, rather than being planned that way.
